About
the Author: Bryan Rundell
I
am an environmental scientist who has worked in the hazardous
waste consulting industry for more than 15 years. A large
portion of my career has been spent studying and educating
the public on the risks of environmental hazards, including
chemical and biological wastes that have been released to
the environment. This experience has given me unique insight
into controversial issues that the media often has difficulty
portraying in an unsensationalized manner. This experience
has also taught me how to research complex scientific issues
and present them in a manner that anyone can understand.
In
addition to this experience, I consulted with some of my colleagues
in the hazardous waste industry who have been involved in
the sampling and testing of the buildings in Washington D.C.
following the discovery of anthrax in the mail system. These
individuals on the "front lines" have given me firsthand knowledge
of what is currently happening. I also consulted with a hospital
pharmacist to review medical language, what antibiotics would
be effective for anthrax infection and what diagnostic tests
are being used to screen for anthrax.
